I'm still here.
In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.

The best way to enjoy digital music reproduction is to never listen to a good analogue reproduction.

It was merely the title of the article...and... pardon me, but I forgot that you are "the" audiophile Tom. :D
I won't make that mistake again sir! 8)

Good article. Due to portable music and the improvement of low budget (but still not that great sounding systems) you would be surprised how many people don't know good sound.

Folks like that you have to sit them down and let them here a good system. I when I still owned my Lightstar direct preamp I would invite folks over and let them listen to the Lightstar and the would say "WOW that sounds great!" Then I would switch to my Counterpoint SA-5000 preamp and they would be speechless. I think some people are chased away by the price of good gear and refused to listen because they don't believe there is a difference.

Everybody liked the Counterpoint. Myself included. I have been stuck on tube preamps ever since.

I agree. The posers all went with the current trends. The audiophile separated the wheat from the chaff of the digital stuff, and got the best of both worlds.

It is a shame. As discussed here many times, at a certain level of fidelity/"fullness"/pureness/whatever you want to call it, recorded music takes on a whole new perspective in one's life (IMO). A totally different animal than garden variety crap that the bulk of even folks who LIKE music settle for. I kind of liken it to we are ALMOST as privileged as the kings and queens and rulers from the "golden age" of classical music who could afford to have a live orchestra play the latest offerings from Mozart, etc. as they lounged in luxury and enjoyed the purity of these sounds. Almost this "privileged"....but almost is still extremely blessed.... But getting friends/family to understand that the effort of assembling such a system is well worth it is an almost impossible job. Like I said, a real shame...but their loss...
