Are the mullard 10m worth the money?

I wouldn't pay $400 a tube. I got lucky and found a good deal. They are the best 12AX7's I have heard. For me they do everything right and the noise floor they have is incredibly low.

Hang on to those 10M's snoop - they will be worth BIG money some day....

Finally found a black magic amp this week! These things are hard to come by these days. Was wondering what everybody
is running tube wise since it has been almost three years since the last post.

Try checking on a quad of the TAD version. Pretty solid performers.

Others will be along with the erotic version stories.... :-"

The RCA are still reasonably priced unlike the Mullards. I really want to try some 10m's since they are supposed to be the best. The Siemens are also on my short list. Also do you run a pre amp just go straight from source to the amp?

Re: Tube rolling the Baby Black Beauty or CF amps

I use a preamp. I have Mullard 10M's and they worked pretty good in my amp but better in my preamp. Tube performance can vary from component to component. You can also try RCA long black plate 12AX7's , Siemens 12AX7's (dual post getter), Sylvania triple mica black plate 5751's and Tesla e83cc. The Tesla you have to be careful with because there are a lot of fakes. It has frame grid construction like a 6DJ8 not plates and the getter halo has dual posts. It is identical to the legendary Telefunken 803s.

That is great to know on the 10m, saves a lot of $$$ trying them out. Will try and run down some ge 5751 5 stars and may look into some 60's tungscram 12ax7's.

I have also had some time to compare the baby black to the cherry's running the Kt 150. Going into this I thought they would sound similar but they really don't. The smaller amp sounds much more solid state to me with tight punchy bass and a nice midrange. The big amps have more tube magic to them with a better more 3d midrage along with a powerful thick and heavy bass. I really like both for different reasons.

There should be plenty of GE 5751's out there and you want the black plate triple mica version.
