Silver-7 restoration / update

We are beginning to completely restore and upgrade a pair of Silver-7 tube amplifiers.
Something we haven't seen anyone else attempt before.

We'll be refinishing the chassis in high gloss black powder coating. The original lacquer finish was nice, but not durable what so ever. This new finish will last the life of the amplifiers. We will also be updating the RCA and binding connectors, and adding an IEC. also adding amber LEDs to the meters to match the Silver-1 preamp design.

No. This is a set my father put in storage a couple years ago, after getting the original Silver-7 prototypes from Bobs personal collection.

Very cool project. I will be looking forward to reading about the updates and pic's.

Thats real funny that you have started this restoration on the Silver Sevens.

I have just finished upgrading all the caps in one amp and DC restorer circuit , have not had time to do the other.
When I am finished the other amp, I was planing on adding an IEC.

the wiring schematic to have a look at.
The caps I used are what he chose, I did not question the the different brands, The ALEX are made by Duelund

What I see are some bypass caps that were originally used to help out the crappy stock electrolytic and mylar caps. Since you are upgrading those, there really is no need to use bypass caps now. I've found that bypassing high quality film/foil caps results in unwanted artifacts. Also, not using bypass caps now will save you money.

One I don't really get is the OBLIG-74473 0.22uf (gold one), CLARITY-74839 0.25uf (silver one)and the ALEX-75267 0.01uf (black one, is that an ALEX) all together. Three different caps, three different flavors when all that is needed is one high quality 0.48uF cap.
