No,no, 6ax7 is not what bob gave us, it is a Russian tube, I thought 6np7. But need to order some more for the rest of the carverfest amps.

Are the mullard 10m worth the money?

I wouldn't pay $400 a tube. I got lucky and found a good deal. They are the best 12AX7's I have heard. For me they do everything right and the noise floor they have is incredibly low.

tinpan wrote:Funny thing happened. After swapping amps with MR HP I decided to test both amps before I sold them. I've been running the stock Sovtek EL84 tubes in one of them and I think I like them better then the new style Mullards.

I also ordered a pair of the MATCHED PAIR 'REFLEKTOR' SOVTEK EL84M that Mark posted as well to try out.

After speaking with Eric a couple weeks ago I thought I would try out a couple 12AX7's. Here is one I am looking at, though I hate the idea of ordering from Hong Kong:

Any other suggestions?
Dont order from Hong Kong. The real Sylvania JHS 5751's have gold colored print on them. If you cant find any Ill send you a pair to try along with some Siemens E84L's......and a cashiers check. Now thats a deal you cant refuse.

The square d or what not, I thought bob said that was a give away that says telefunken made them. Or is this something different?

They must be like these
Only thing that bothers me is he says they were produced from 1970-1973. The holy grails were made in 1957. Plus the print looks too good on the tubes in your link. The good ones are usually missing some "ink" because it rubs off so easy.

Telefunkens have a diamond between the pins....totally different tube than above.

Ok, I give up. I did get the old Sovtek reflectors and kind of like them. I wouldn't mind borrowing/trying a few 12AX7's tubes since I can't seem to find any to buy.

One of the reasons I pulled the one BB off the Khorns was I didn't like the noise. The occasional snap crackle pop. I am beginning to think I should have tried some different tubes on them before I decided to sell them.

Kind of rethinking keeping both the BB amps now, lol. I've been digging the one in my office and it looks like the 300b home-brew is going back to the original owner this weekend. I might end up keeping the second one too and the Khorns if I find a set of tubes that I am confident won't take out the Khorns if they fail.

Man deciding to sell this snuff and actually selling it is tough.

Ok, you are on

Image
Whilst we wait for mr. postman, we'll roll the line stage back into the formula. It gives me a chance to roll a line stage 12AU7 and some oil caps.

Image
For now, we'll stick with the AN Ccopper foil caps

Image
I have this old Mullard 12AU7 in there for now. It adds a nice rich texture to the music.

Image
Here's the back side of it. I like the sound of this combo and would probably keep the line stage in for a while
