60" ribbons on a 300x2 with an eq

so, i have listening to the ribbons that james just rebuilt and as they break in wow. currently using the tgp4 x-over at 160 for the ribbons via the rane eq's. then the lows through the velodyne dd to the cinema amp feeding the 3-15" treo's and the side axis as well as surround channels. eq's are way cool. also in using the amazing plats, the 360 effects of Qsound recordings would not dial in until the speakers were at a perfect 90 degree and toed a touch. then wow. with the eq now the whole thing as that much fuller and wider and musical. at least to my ear. and i find i am tweaking the eq from time o time. i am hearing things that i never noticed prior in the recordings. i have yet another idea for a line source. have to prototype first then post.

Re: 60" ribbons on a 300x2 with an eq

so after a long time of breaking them in, i just noticed that i have a ton of bass from just the plats. i , a while back, made a comment of how the plats had just the kind of bass i like, only to see that the subs were on. well, i noticed now that i have a ton of bass and no subs playing. the new woofers have loosened up quite a bit. now to re-eq them again. wow. the ribbons are also a lot more relaxed as they are what i consider to be a touch of heaven on earth. all this is no no small part due to the help of james and alex helping me out at last years carverfest with their rebuild. so much aggrevation has paid off many times over. the few freinds that have been able to hear them are speechless. they said they have never heard anything like it. i need to put the al3's back as mains just to remind myself just how high the bar was raised with the "new everything" using the clearview crossover, tgp4, 300x2, rane 30 band as well as the 400 7. wow. i so look forward to the room i will have built some day soon to really tweak my rig out......just too cool.....all the crap that comes my way in daily life makes me really appreciate the way the stereo brings it all back to a calm and peaceful zen like state.......thanks you...... all of you here on the site have helped me in that end over the past few years to take it to the next level of excellence .... who knew right......

and then, i added the esu and finished all the ruby cables with plat ends. nice. i am on the fence with the esu, as it is different in the way it presents the sound. it looks nice just the same. all the cables the exact length needed, no slop. how cool is that. pics soon.

The biggest difference I noticed with the ECS-U was in the bass section, not the Ribbon. The sub-bass button really added some much needed kick to the Silvers, which were kind of weak without it. :? :?

Re: 60" ribbons on a 300x2 with an eq

well, the plats are at least 25% more woofer, but in my case, more importantly, i use a clearview that eliminates the passive xover which in turn robs bass. it does add a kick for sure. i need to play some old rock and roll instead of these audiophile discs i bought at the show which have tons o bass to begin with. as noted in the owners manual, the holography is not as in your face as the c9. i also noticed that because i use it between the pre and amp, that if i drive the esu over the 4volt max, it clips. i was like what the hell was that while listening to the 1812 overture when some guns went off. so, maybe it will stay, maybe not in the way it is hooked up now. the same thing happened with my pioneer reciever when i added the jolida cd player. i was like what the hell is that noise during peaks in the cd's. that led to me getting the tgp4 from you and then a whole layer of coloration disappeared from my system again. then i re-capped my al3's, and again it was like wow. i simply hate it when i go backwards at times. i may just hook up the esu to the pioneer laserdisc as it does not exceed the 4 volts at any given time and it would be line level all the time. only time will tell. maybe even, i could find a way through bob to update the opamps in it to go to 6 or 8 volts when i see him next. anyway, cool gizmo just the same.
