Price for Platinum Mark IV Speakers

I would appreciate some guidance. I have been searching high and low for some Carver Amazing speakers to replace the Silver Edition's that I sold years ago. I just located some Platinum Mark IV Editions in what look to be excellent condition. I would have to drive about 200 miles to pick the speakers up. The owner says there is no buzzing and I can audition them in his home setting. He said he is the owner of an audio store and purchased the speakers directly from Carver. His asking price is $1,950. I made him a lower offer but he would only come down to $1,800. That still sounds too high to me. I need some help with this.

Re: Price for Platinum Mark IV Speakers

It depends on any upgrades he has done, physical and operational condition, and how bad you want them. Seems a better price would be $1200-$1500.
In reality, it only matters what it sounds like to YOU!!!

Pricing is way to high, but if they are in great shape and you want them go for them.

Re: Price for Platinum Mark IV Speakers

Over priced !

Keep looking, they turn up for less than $1000.00 usually.

My Silvers were $350.00 with bad woofers. By the time I got done renting a van to get them & replacing the woofers I was close to $1000.00.

It has been 5 years and they are still great.

Be patient, you will find them eventually.

Re: Price for Platinum Mark IV Speakers

I would sell mine for no less than 2k. But on the plus side, new caps, new woofers(or refoamed originals) , remanufactured new ribbons, new melatone black grill cloth instead of silver, with now two years age on them . But that's just me.
