Re: Carver AL-III's on C.L. Serial #'s 1&2??

Later-day (into the 90's) Carver serial numbers are tricky. At some point they broke with the original pattern completely and incorporated a date code as the first part, then usually a bunch of zeros, and finally some small number, probably distinguishing the units of the run from just that particular day. So I suspect these two were made consecutively on the same day, but are not terribly likely the first IIIs ever. More than just two guys think they have the first or second Lightstar amp, too, but they can't all be right.

Anyhow, knowing what a tweaker Bob was (and still is), I'd far rather have his last version of any given model than his first. The last ones would incorporate all his post-launch improvements. [An exception would be the case of the AL-III "Plus", but those were made "post Bob", with a somewhat cheapened crossover.]
