The power supply is finished! The Vacuum State Super Regulator was a Royal pain in the ass to install. I think Joseph is now going with tube rec and this Regulator. In his last email he said the final parts to install would be the Bybee modules... then test/tweak...

I still need to send him the 6922's....

I'd say stay tuned...but that probably would be as exciting as paint drying...

Joseph is putting it all back together. We decided the bybee rails weren’t needed. He’s got to modify the front panel to fit the volume control shaft and a couple of other assembly things..

But for all intents and purposes, it’s finished!!! Sweet Jesus!!

Pics soon!

I asked about measurements, and he said his equipment isn’t able to measure the noise floor.. it’s lower then what he can pick up..

Whoa.....

Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.

I do plan on it. I run my own business and it’s going to take a bit of effort to make it happen. Plus load up my stuff. I’ll need to employ my younger cousins to help because after my last health crisis.. I am in no shape to be lugging a bunch of heavy shit around....

I’m extremely curious to find out how this ultimately will sound in my system. We put a bunch of new parts in it and I wonder.. Joseph said it sounded great in his system..he said it was the Vcaps that made the biggest improvement along with the NOS Tubes

My thing is that it’s been almost three years... I’ve forgotton what it sounds like, plus I’ve changed/upgraded my system in that time.

It would be cool if someone brought a stock one and we could do some back to back comparisons.

okay, i couldn't help myself! I made room and set it up! wow....i think the power supply is key. we went with a tube regulator and a vacuum state super regulator along with the big Lundahl Transformers. i can tell right away there is definitely more slam and control. The mid range is beautiful... the Vcaps like Joseph said realty allow separation and definition. I'm still tweaking with adjustments. I'm not using the tone controls on the pre.

I would recommend upgrading at a minimum the power supply in these pre amps. The Elma Volume control is also very very nice. all in all it's been a long journey and so far i'm very happy. Joseph is one talented guy...

more to follow!!!!

Well, it was damn nice of everyone who took the time to help me. without it, i don't think joe could have done this level of intense rebuild.

These are all the parts Joe replaced. All the RCA/balanced jacks, there's even caps in there although i wouldn't recommend using those.

I've had it on and playing music almost non stop for a day now. I'm still very impressed! I've set all tone adjustments back to zero and i am starting over. I have played with the crossover as I've noticed the mid range is greatly "enhanced"?

It's hard to say what improvement did what. Is it the vintage tubes? I never replaced the stock ones (i think he returned them too)

I would really enjoy bringing it to CF and giving everyone a listen. It's nice having a real pre amp back in my system!
