Latest From Bob

The $575 price will be for kits with KT-88's. KT-120's are more (exact amount uncertain as of now), but well worth it. KT-150's give just a little more, due to other design limitations, so their use is not worth the difference in price, which is considerable. Still waiting to hear about the price with no tubes.
Quote from Bob: This amp can use KT120s. 6550s, KT88s, 6L6es, EL34s, 6CA7s, or 5881s. The bias will be easily set by using the front panel meter and the control on the back of the amp. All the above tubes are a drop-in fit.

Looks like there will be an up-front deposit of $350 for each kit, and the later balance will depend on tube choice. Dates to be determined, tube prices other than KT-88's tbd also. Don't send anything yet. Ed (sea) will advise when, how, how much, to whom, and to where, all in good time.

Robert- Do you know what driver/inverter tubes will be used? I know Bob likes the Telefunken 12AX7 for inverter/drivers and 6AK5 for DC restorer in other amps. Are any particular tube types included in the kits as of yet? I was thinking that some inexpensive output tubes could be used for proving out newly built amps- https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-new-matche ... XQ~6VQ7F~b are only $30 per quad. Don't sound awesome, but good for testing.

I'd really like to see the schematic for this amp, so I can bring some capacitor options, too.

Robert,

I had been planning to add another amp for a total of 2 amps. But have been very busy at work and have not kept up with the tube amp build updates.

If I'm reading your post correctly ,me asking to add another amp is off the table now? Is this correct?

Eric - If you want two, that can be arranged. No parts have been ordered yet, and won't be for a while yet. I talked Bob into doing a few extra, so no problem - just say the word, but say it pretty soon...

Kevin,

Bob is using all 12AX7's - three of 'em- for the non-output stages in this model. He hasn't mentioned brand, but Telefunken is a good bet.

He's bringing a bunch of 6L6's.

Last October when we first talked of this project, Bob said he'd send a schematic and some prototype pictures. I got the pics right away, but still waiting for the schemo...
But fear not, we should have the info in plenty of time for you to procure whatever you want before the Fest.

Robert are we going to have the option of stuffing our own boards? I like the flavor of Mills resistors and some tasty caps 8)

Mundorf makes ketchup? You never season food before you try it Robert, it's an insult to the cook.

Robert could you give us an approximate idea of how much power the amp will make with each type of power tube.

I think I read somewhere in one of these threads the KT-88 will make about 100/wpc.

Here is your quote below from The Bobfather:

Quote from Bob: This amp can use KT120s. 6550s, KT88s, 6L6es, EL34s, 6CA7s, or 5881s. The bias will be easily set by using the front panel meter and the control on the back of the amp. All the above tubes are a drop-in fit.

I think it will take KT120's to get 100wpc, and KT88's will likely be closer to 75wpc.
(Just speculation without any details from Bob.)

Those numbers are right on; Jordon measured 70-75 with KT-88's and 105 with 120's. All subject to minor changes, of course, as Bob tweaks.
