McIntosh amps

Are they really that good? I see them on ebay alot and the prices are insane. There were some solid state mono blocks with a starting bid of $9900
Has anybody got experience with them?

Re: McIntosh amps

Heard one once. Nice amp, but don't have the $$$$$ to delve in that equipment. Well...maybe if I sold my Carver stuff but I don't see that happening.
In reality, it only matters what it sounds like to YOU!!!

Re: McIntosh amps

MacIntosh makes outstanding quality amps, but as you noted, they are exceptionally expensive.

I have a local friend who is on Polk Audio. He has a massive Mac system with Martin-Logan speakers & a pair of JL Audio subs. I conservatively estimate he has around $70,000 in it. It's absolutely gorgeous & sounds fantastic.

X2 Thanks Jesse.

They have nothing on Bob's amps. Especially the Sunfires & new tubes.

If I didn't have my Lightstar I would own a 300 to 400 wpc Mac.

I use an MC 2205 in the main system with a Cary tube preamp, wonderful combination. 200 WPC, built to last.

Re: McIntosh amps

Personally, if I were to drop that kind of coin on an amplifier it would still have Bob's name on it, "VTA 305 Black Beauties." There's a pair of "B" stock on A'gon now, $11,500 shipped OBO with full warranty.

Re: McIntosh amps

Yep, solid state and weighing in at ~100lbs. a picture without the wood case...

This amp was purchased locally in the late 70s at Magnolia HiFi. The guy was using it with a nice Phase Linear preamp when I picked up both, along with a Thorens TT, from him a few years ago. Rectilinear III Lowboy speakers. I think he got the complete system at Magnolia as he had the manuals for everything. From back in the day when we budgeted as much or more for the HiFi as we did for a car!~
