What to do for the next two weeks....

Ha ha correcting myself. It will probably be 300Hz. The 803 horns cut off at 300Hz. We'll do some playing around in that area

I got the second coat of paint on and let that dry. Then the VOTT stickers arrived


I am hoping to pick up the 803 horns this week. I'm still not sure which 15 inch drivers I'll use, 416 or 515s.
The price on either vintage driver is ...steep.


Anyway, the cabinets are done. Now just saving my pennies for the drivers


I pretty much got two of the three projects completed. I got the Oris horns mounted and the A210s painted. The Azura horns
are a different matter. All I have managed to complete here is to make large piles of sawdust and round disks and planks with 7 inch holes cut out


As you can see I am quite adept at making sawdust in more that one place. Days like this really make you appreciate the fine work done by the likes of Elgrau and PDR. Clearly I have a way to go.


My problem has been finding a way to mount studs or threaded inserts this close to the horns mouth. I think I'm going to need to find a way to make a flange extended so i can get the mounting holes far enough away from the horn mouth to mount the drivers. The flare of the horn screws this approach up.


The other thought was to make two rings a bury the studs like this. I decided against this because it moves the driver too far away from the horn mouth.

Shortcake, I have to laugh, my buddy told me that these speakers will have every audiofile hottie young lady beating my door down. If I had known that I would have built them 10 years ago. lol

Anyway, since I just figured out I have a three day weekend, I figured I'll post the progress


Got my flanges cut for the wings

And my first coat of paint drying on them.

I ordered a pair of Altec 299 compression drivers that should show up this week and the turnbuckles. Hopefully I'll get my GPA 515b drivers ordered this week and maybe I can look at putting these together by the end of the month.

Monday was a good day, I finally figured out how to mount my PM4a drivers. Now to let the adhesive that glues the flange to the horn dry for a week and I'll be ready to finish the stands for these


The trick was to drill the holes large enough to let the bolts have some slop so you can wiggle everything into position. I was trying to make everything an exact fit and that wasn't working


Installed the flanges on the wings for the horns. Now to wait for the turnbuckles to show up and the drivers and these will be ready to go


These are the 803's. I also found a pair of 1003 horns which I will probably get as well. Then I can move the 803's to the A7's and make them A5's and use the 1003's on the A210's. That might be a really nice match

Finished this stage of the project, here are the 803 multi cell horns mounted on the delta wing. The turnbuckles I ordered were
too large so I have to get a new pair, these are temporary from Lowes untill the nice SS ones come in from McMaster Carr


I built these for the A210's but I don't think these will be leaving the A7's. They sound so much nicer that the 511b's, the imaging is post on like I have been wishing for and they throw a big s.we.et spot like the Oris Horns. Looks like I'll finally get around to knocking the dust off


Looks like I'll be looking for another pair of 803 or 1003 horns and 288 drivers for the A210s. These sound great

MRHP, the component stand is made by Archetype Salamander. The Amp stands were custom made to match the component stand you'll see in the following pic. The plan was to use those amp stands with the component stand in the pic since they matched. As you can see I got a little off track

I finally got my Lowther PM4a speakers mounted and the rough version of the horn stands made. I still need to finish them and I am waiting for the crossovers. Until they arrive I am running the horns full range and using the Rythmik sub for bass. When the crossovers arrive I'll lose the sub. I cannot wait for the crossovers to get here. I've only had these drivers for 3 years and finally found a local supplier for the horns. This one has been a long time in the making

The Jubilee is one of my dream speakers, I've thought about building my own using dual K-48 15's as bass bins and mounting the huge horns on top.
