eBay Raised Their Seller's Fees

Post by jjptkd » Wed Apr 24, 2013 10:36 am

Just a little FYI for those who sell (or plan on selling) on eBay they just raised their seller's fees to a full 10% of the final sale price from the previous 5.5% That does not include Paypal fees that I believe are another 2.5-3% ](*,) ](*,) Add to this the new legislation to collect sales tax (another 10%) on all internet sales that's in the works...

Prices are already inflated because of the add on fees and now they RAISE them!!! That is why a C-1 pre sold for $85 4 years ago and now I've seen them list starting price of $250!!! ](*,)
In reality, it only matters what it sounds like to YOU!!!

so if the internet tax thing does go thru

you pay, but how do I know if the tax will be forwarded. I can see very large corporations doing this, the small mom and pop operations......, it aint going to happen and from a private party just selling an item like, a C1 or TFM-45, there sure as hell not going to do this..
I do think this will help craigslist grow.
now to find a good search like craigslook use to do....

There's an easy way to fix this. Stop buying/selling on ePrey.

However, I doubt this change will affect the billions they make every year.

From what I have seen thesales tax will only be for "new" items. Therefore anything I sell will be considered as USED!

This all stems from our wonderful polititions(sp) and their never ending quest for mo'money. (*,) ](*,)

It will reposition the home town store to at least be comparable in price more than not. It will shrink the revenue. Someone ought to keep an eye if they remember what this does to ebays bottom line.

Yeah, if I sell on ebay I have to figure 12% going to them and paypal. They are the ones making money, not the folks selling on there. I'll not sell any cables on ebay because of that. It's really gotten to the point where they are WAY too greedy. I listed a Nikon Professional camera on there this week because that's the only outlet to sell something like that. I'll end up getting 12% taken right off the top, plus the listing fees of $2.60 plus free shipping. You even have to pay them the percentage on shipping fees, so might as well sell with free shipping. Really cuts into any profit, and inflates prices. Wish there was another place to sell that had the audience ebay has. Along with many others, I would love to see ebay get some real competition, which would maybe make them re-think their fees.

As far as tax tax collection, that will be a whole new can-O-worms for us small businesses who use the internet to sell!! Hope this does not happen. At least with collecting Texas sales tax, I can see what was collected, and send it to the State. I can't imagine how much of my time it will take to figure all this out, and fill out forms for all the States, then figure out each month how much to send to each state.

and as a small business owner why would you,
say I buy from you, Wa state does not know this, and unless you tell them, and I sure and the hell am not going to.
what about all the different tax rates for different areas,.....
I don't think there would be enough hrs in a day to keep up....
