Las Vegas & Mark Knopfler

What a weekend I had, managed to score a ticket front row centre
to see Mark knopfler play at the Pearl Concert hall at the Palms hotel in Las Vegas.

I flew out of Ottawa, on Thursday night heading for Vegas, on my own planing on having some fun.
Picked up my rental car and I ended up checking into the Palms hotel around 2:00am Friday morning. All good! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
Took a tour of the casino and went to bed around 3:00am.

The problem started the next morning, I woke up around 8:00am not feeling too good, the flu I had been fighting
all week decide to really pay me a visit. So I shut my eyes hoping to get a bit more sleep, no problem I woke up around 11:00am
not feeling good but hungry. Got a late breakfast and I went down to the pool took some meds and fell asleep by the pool for a couple of hours and then I moved to
my room, slept until 5:30pm. Had a shower and went to meet some people from Holland and other parts of the US.
Has a couple of Scotch's and some more meds and off to the show.

What a real good show front row centre helped, just over 2 hrs of guitar heaven.

After the show a couple more drinks with the group and then off to bed. Woke up the next morning around 11:15am checkout was at 11:00
had a quick shower, and checked out. my plane did not leave until 11:00 at night. So still feeling like shit, I tried to do a couple of sight seeing things.
After a couple of hrs of walking around, I was fucked. I went to a movie to pass some time.
5:00pm came round I was feeling hungry, grabbed some food and took some more meds. got back to my car around 7:00pm real tired as I did not have to be back a the airpot
until 9:00pm I had a snooze in the car.
WHAT A FUCKING MISTAKE. I woke up at 10:30pm in the parking lot at the Palms. Over a 30 mins drive to the airport and my flight left at 11:00pm
Guess what, I missed my flight. Feeling shitty and stupid, I was not happy with my self.
Called my wife Pat, and she managed to book me on a flight the next day at 2:00pm. So now I needed a room for the night. Saturday night in Vegas lets party, no lets not
I need more sleep. Tried the budget hotels to get a room, no luck all full (or the 5 I tried where). Drove back to the Palms and asked about a room I was told $350.00 plus $20.00 resort
fee. I explained that I had stayed at the hotel on Thursday and Friday night for $99.00 + resort fee, hoping they could do better. I was told its Saturday night and thats the best they can do.
I said fuck that, and as I was getting real good at sleeping in the car, thats what I did. Took some more meds and passed out in the car.
The next morning I washed up in the bathroom at the Palms and drove back to the airport in plant of time to make my fight.
Got back into Ottawa at 11:45pm on Sunday, made it home for 1:00am. Back to work on Monday morning. left work at noon and have been in bed since
still feeling real shitty. But glad to be home.
I enjoyed the show, but not the best weekend in Vegas.

Brian.

Re: Las Vegas & Mark Knopfler

Sounds like one of my re-occuring dreams/nightmares: always late to the airport; miss flight; can't find my way back to hotel (on foot!) and can't find the small piece of paper that had the hotel's name on it... Seems like you were actually living this nightmare! But glad you are back home. Next time try clicking your heels together and saying "there's no place like home, there's..."

Yes same tour, 5 shows 4 US cites, 1 in Vegas and the other 4 on the west coast.
The last one was 29th in Oakland.

Glad you like the tunes.

The Vegas show was way better than the Madrid, I have ordered the concert stick.

What stays in Vegas, pays in Vegas?
It is cruel, you know, that music should be so beautiful. It has the beauty of loneliness of pain: of strength and freedom. The beauty of disappointment and never-satisfied love. The cruel beauty of nature and everlasting beauty of monotony. - Benjamen Britten

Wow, i feel your pain. I went to california for my son graduation present, trip, get away. I had to have some chinese and did not consider la traffic. A parking lot. We missed our plane and spent another 500 or so for new tickets as the old ones were no. Refundable. Yeah, that dinner cost me like a grand in the end . Now i never mess around with a plane trip. Fuck me.
