New Toy

Post by elgrau » Sun Jul 20, 2008 11:38 pm

I won this S-90 Honda: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0270779271
I'm happy; odd thing was with ~30 bidders, no one made a last minute bid to challenge my bid. Last one of these sold for $2150. I bid $1751; my bid of $1625 ($25 over last bid) went unchallenged during last 2 hours (no one bid at the last minute...I've never seen that when so many are bidding). Odd thing was that at the end of auction eBay did not say "congrats u won"; just kept saying "u are in lead, almost over", etc. I think the system "froze", but since eBay sent me email saying I won...I'm holding them to that! 'nother weird ebay experience.

My wife bought one JUST like that (same color and everything) when I was dating her at the University of Michigan in 1969. She only had it about 6 months when her dad bought her a brand new 1969 Mustang for her birthday.
It should sound like it isn't there!

Attraction: I like the look, and like Carver amps, there is nothing being made new today that equals them (most stuff this "small" today are scooters, and I don't like that "look"). Also, since I'm only looking for something to tool up and down Pacific Coast Highway (both to work and other trips) and since I'm not suicidal (enough) to have a big enough bike that would tempt me onto the freeways out here (CA freeway drivers are at best crazy and at worst homicidal -and some homo's too!): no place you want to be with nothing but leather between you and a crazed car traveling 85 MPH! So when it comes to cycles, I'll stick to just around town and side streets, thank-you!
At worst, I also think these "vintage" jap bikes make great investments!

Picked her up today...real nice condition. First words out of seller's mouth as he was rolling the bike out, were "man, you got a sweet deal!". He was thinking that it would go for close to $3k (dreaming); I thought low $2's based on previous sales of S-90's with this low (supposed) mileage and condition. You just never know with ePray! Sometimes the guy who was going to out bid you forgets the auction close time, or something spooks them, or whatever. Plus I got 10% off (up to $100 via an eBay "coupon"), so I really "only" paid $1525!
It runs very smooth and throaty and quiet with loads of low end torque/power (for a 90cc...about 9 HP, I think). So far, I'm real happy....need to get side mirrors and a good 6V cycle battery (I'm using a makeshift 6V battery for now), and it idles a little rough probably due to sitting unused for last 5 years, but I'm confident some fuel/carb cleaner will fix that...
