Carver SD/A-490T ?

Have any of you replaced that rubber band yourself?

Mine quit opening and closing the tray and wouldn't play the CD that was trapped inside.

I removed the cover to rescue my Led Zeppelin III cd and I could see that tiny belt that was like an old rubber band all stretched out and weak.

So these days I just use my TX-11 to listen to anything.

It's a well-known issue. Some have replaced with an elastic hair band, others take the belt to the hardware store & obtain a suitable rubber O-ring. No reason to spend more than a few cents to fix it.

Yeah I thought I saw that mentioned here before so maybe that would be worth trying.

Same reason.

With the cover on and connected I would see the the time running but no sound and then tried with the cover off just to see if the disc was spinning and a few times it would start and then stop and then once it did continue spinning but at that time I didn't have it connected to the C-19

All of this happened at once.......one day it played and the next I could'nt get the drawer to slide open.

Funny thing when I bought this in 1991 the drawer was stuck and I brought it back to Lynwood and they fixed it and it worked for the next 20 years.

Seems like a long time but I expect great equiptment to run forever

I need this to run so when I am home alone I can have some minutes of peace.

Ah hell,thanks neighbor.....you posted that as I was typing and thinking to myself.......I thought I saw that here before but it works better when I have one of you to link me up

Btw when I had the cover off I did notice the 2 Yugo tubes were lit up.

I haven't had headphones that worked for decades now and don't remember having a digital optical cable either......I see one coaxial below it (rca?)

If you use the digital outputs you bypass the tube buffer, might as well play the disc off of your CD-rom.

Yes fully seated and I have never had a CD fail before.

The main thing is that in all these decades I have never let another human touch my Carver/Phase Linear collection or the CD's,vinyl, or cassette's

I baby all of them and they all look brand new.

I will give it another test to play with the cover off and connected to the C-19 to see if it is spinning and loaded as it should be.

I hope to get sound and it looks like replacing that old rubber band should be fairly easy.

All 6 of my computers run 24/7 doing data processing for the Cern LHC and the Einstein Project not to play music

Most CD players are designed so they will not work with the cover off (they are afraid someone will blind themself on the laser~)....

I'm pretty sure I had my 490t playing with the top cover off. I know I played my TLM-3600 without the top.
