Carver CT-24 Help

Post by nadude98 » Wed May 04, 2016 11:32 am

I picked up a CT-24 recently and need some help. It hums even when in standby.. As far as I can determine it is the transformer. It's loud enough to be distracting. Anyone know anything about these? Is there a replacement that will go right in?

Cheers,
Jim

Hello,

I would ensure the filter capacitors in the power supply are good before trying to find/replace the transformer. Chances are, if you replace the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply you'll correct the problem.

Jim. welcome to the forum. I don't know what you have in the CT-24 but I've had a new one and can tell you that there are many Carver pre amps better at a comparable price. My suggestion is sell it and acquire a C-1, C-11, or if you have the means a Carver C-19. These are very superior to the CT-24. Again, welcome!!!
In reality, it only matters what it sounds like to YOU!!!

I replaced the caps... I kind of hate to sell it in the current condition.. but I've only got the cost of the caps and about $25 in it right now. I would like to get my C-4000 sounding right! Right now it's being a bear!
