Sunfire Amp Plates (Non-EQ)

Post by UncleMeat » Mon Mar 12, 2018 9:06 pm

Are the standard True Subwoofer Amp plates capable of driving the 12" Signature woofer? I bought a TSW-Signature (Solitare) with a missing plate amp. I was going to try and find a standard TSW amp to replace because they are much easier to track down.

I would think so. They appear to be the same as to size and output.

If all else fails, you might look at the stuff from Parts Express. They look to be Bob's design, come in various power ranges and the price seems ok.

Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.

Bill Flannery would know for sure.

Thanks for the help/info. I just wasn't sure if there are minor changes to the original TSW board (damping/back EMF). I think you are right Wayne, Flannery would be the person who might know that answer.

Thanks for posting that Mike!

Your adapter plate looks great, but I think the standard TSW (non-EQ) amp plate is the same size as the 12" non-EQ case cutout. If it works for the EQ amp board, I don't see why it wouldn't work for the non-EQ versions.

The 12" sub I have is a TSW-Signature Architectural, not Solitare (I mis-spoke before). Amp board was destroyed by someone working on it, they didn't unbolt the trim pots and broke them off the board. At that point I think they just tossed the plate amp.

Wayne (WRF) gave me a Solitare 10 with a fried transformer (among other plate amp issues). So I've got two subs with no plate amps to drive them. The Solitare 10 amp board is likely repairable, but the transformer is NLA from what I gather.

I bought a TSW Architictural amp plate/case on E-Bay. It was functional but the gain pot needed to be turned up to about 80% before the amp would turn on. I replaced the low voltage power supply caps and the auto-on/off caps (all located on the far left side of the amp board). Fixed! Sunfire TSW Signature/Architectural (no passive) up & running for under $200!

I put the solder wire on the top side against the lead wire/pad, and the iron on the bottom side. When the solder melts it will wick through the board toward the iron and flow onto both the upper and lower pad.

Strange, when I'm logged in the pictures are visible; when not logged in they just say 'image'.
