You will have a new member of the OCCD club this afternoon. Already suffering and i haven't even bought my carver yet. Should be picking up my TFM-55 and CT-3 this afternoon.

Considering we have a 50 year old apartment with really old wiring also, just last night we had all the air con on to heat the place (it's winter down in the southern hemisphere), popped a roast in the oven and my other half decided to have a shower THEN bamm lights go out. Checked all the circuit breakers in the apartment (after 5 mins searching for a torch in the pitch black), everything fine, so it was the main circuit breaker in the apartment basement!!

oh crud... if my place can't handle what we have now, just wait until I connect my TFN-55!! Ok House rule: when the music is on no cooking or showers!! Take away pizza! Lol

Well going back to OCCD, I've already found myself talking to friends about my find and about Bob Carver, your festivals, forum support etc. Try getting that with Mr.Yamaha or Mr.Denon.. "Today we have Mr.Yamaha for Q&A session!!" Lol

Thanks guys

More of a Passion than Disorder I would say.

What did you go with, Obi?
I WAS going to go with the AKG-701 but the best price I could get up here was $753. I was actually trying to decide between the Grados or the Beyer DT-880 (great deal at $250) but instead I picked up something else ..... I'll tell you all about it when they get here next week. O:)

You made a fine choice. I have the K701s and a few other people here do too (Rabbit, Dreamer?). Hey, where is Dreamer been these days, anyway. I miss his tomes.

I'm out of my league here.

Even 212 bucks for a pair of headphones would be enough for my other half to initiate a file for divorce (even though we're not married yet, but speaking hypothetically).

Well I guess that is put down to me living in a developing country with a salary to match (my salary isn't developing one bit, mind you neither is the country so why do we call it "developing"?).

One way ticket back to my home land UK is tempting. But then where would I be without Punta del Este and a good South American steak?

The weird thing is that the other AKG models are all priced within a few bucks of the US retail prices. Also, if I were to buy them in the US, the warranty would be void up here, so I just told the dealer to go screw himself. Besides, I figure that what I did get is a cut above the 701s and way more comfortable to wear, at least on my head (the 701s just felt weird)

Well, I also recommend Sony studio headphones -- a great price for great performance - I think they're still less than $100USD (I still have the VR-6 model or something like that --- a little foam deterioration, fixed with some thin sheet foam in a package sold by Radio Shack (or online I'm sure) and even the headphone pads for your ears can be had inexpensively on e-bay, many dimensions to choose from, all from Hong Kong, though, I think).

Anyone ever leave their convalescing sweetie in the hands of a friend (who gets to take her to the doctor to have her staples and stitches taken out) so they can drive 200 miles, fight the hellish NYC rush hour traffic both ways, pick up some speakers and then drive straight back home?
Other than me yesterday, that is.
This is a bad sign but I've got a "new" preamp to fool around with so will have to worry about it later. Volume pot needs cleaning...

Forgive the cheesy staged picture, but I did it for proof of intent for someone on another forum. :)

If you have a perfectly good C4000 and decide that you really must get a Sunfire Tube Preamp even though it means you'll need to buy another amp and some gizmo to hook up your turntable, is that a bad sign?
I thought I was cured but it just went into reimission.
