Sunfire CRS-3 Speakers

Post by garcianc » Wed Sep 17, 2008 8:40 am

Gentlemen, while you guys were goofing off at Carver Fest, I was busy furthering the cause of OCCD.

After I returned home from my trip to Florida on Sunday night I was greeted first by my wife, then by my kids, and finally by the next most beautiful sight. A pair of Sunfire CRS-3 speakers that I had ordered before I left.

At the moment, they are hooked up to my CARVER m1.5t amp sitting on the floor leaning against the wall while I break them in. I also have a set of stands on order that should be here in the next few days. I don't want to wall-mount the speakers. Even sitting on the floor, these speakers sound fantastic. They truly sound holographic, which makes me wonder if that was an intentional design decision. I can't wait until they are properly positioned. Well, more impressions later.

My vintage Polk Audio RTA-12c's that I had been breaking in for the last 22 years, and appear to be finally ready, will move to my other system to be driven by a CARVER AV-505 amp. Since that's only the second amp those speakers would be mated with, I might record my impressions on that as well.

I intend to write a full review of the CRS-3s with pictures and everything within the next few weeks. In the meantime, if you want to stop by for a listen, send me a PM or an email.

Those are very nice. I've always been a huge fan of planar drivers. I actually prefer electroststic/planar sound over anything. Thats why I like the Yamaha's so much. It's like the best of both worlds. They are lightning fast and detailed, (like electrostats) but have a wider sweet spot and bass! There have been many reviews that compare the NS-1000's to electrostatic speakers and it is clear why. Wow did I get off track!!! Anyways congrats on the buy!

Forgot to answer your question. They are 2 ft tall. The dimensions are 5.8" x 24" x 3.75", that is width, height, and depth. They weight about 16 lbs each.

They are just little buggers then aren't they. Go figure. On the pic, they look about the size of an old pair of big Infinities or something.
