Picked up a nice C-1

Post by Dawgme85 » Tue Mar 31, 2009 9:53 pm

So I pulled the trigger on eBay last week and got a C-1 for a good price (IMO). It arrived today and, after removing the covers and squirting some contact cleaner on all the rotaries (except the Balance :( ) and making sure the board looked alright (it did), I put it in my system to try out. Wow, it really sounds good. I did need to replace the feet, as it was missing one, but I also figured on having to drop it off in Snohomish to have Rita freshen it up. As it stands, I think I'll leave it in place for a week or two for an extended trial, and if anything turns out to be dicey I'll make a run up north. Otherwise, I'm thinking it's usable as-is. It's got one tiny scuff on one of the knobs, but otherwise it's pristine! It appears to be an early one, SN<9000, but I don't know if that's good or bad.

BTW, I've been looking for one of these for a couple of months now. I'd like to have the option of putting a LOMC cart on the Thorens, and I also wanted to explore the SH circuit to compare it with the CT-7's. So far it's...different. We'll see what I think after the trial. Of course it matches up with the M500T perfectly!

When I told my wife I'd bought it she just rolled her eyes [-( . I've done worse I guess.

ed. Added a pic!

Don't worry about the wife. Just enjoy!
In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.

The best way to enjoy digital music reproduction is to never listen to a good analogue reproduction.

These are a very nice pre amp, I've had one since 1985 along with an M500t and a DTL100 CD player, have never had a moments trouble. The DTL100 is going to have to go in for service, skips once in awhile but it still works. Also have a DTL200 that will be going in for repair at the end of August, An Ebay purchase that only played 2 CD's then crapped out.
