M1.0t or A-400x

What are your opinions of these amps? I have each in two locations, and have not compared on same stereo yet. What does everyone else think?

Re: M1.0t or A-400x

I really like the A-400x, have bought a half dozen or so over the years and 4 of them are still around in friends systems. :D I was running the 760x with my Chorus II's and when I swapped out my first 400x I almost immediately put the 760x up for sale as I could not tell any difference in output or sound quality. :? Don't get me wrong, the 760x is a great, beast of an amplifier but the Chorus II's simply do not need that much push. The A-400x is basically a TFM-35x minus a couple output devices and new enough that they shouldn't need service for another 10 years or so (approx.)

I've had a few M-1.0t amplifiers as well and they're pretty descent if you can get them for the right price. I actually prefer the M-4.0t and the M-1.5t over the M-1.0t but its still a good amp. The only problem with the "M" series is they're 25+ years old and almost certainly need a re-cap if they haven't been serviced yet.

In my experience all the THX amps are very neutral, quiet amplifiers, don't add any "fluff" or color to the sound where the "M" series and original TFM line each had their own distinct sound signature or "flavor" if you will.

Re: M1.0t or A-400x

Thanks for the replay. It makes sense. I always liked the M1.5t (my dad runs 3 in his present system). But the 1.0t never really fit my opinions. From what I have seen, the M1.0t go for more on ebay than the A-400x. I think I will listen to both and make up my mind before I sell one.

I've had both and agree with jjptkds' opinion. Either will do a good job, I think the M1.0t has more power.
In reality, it only matters what it sounds like to YOU!!!
