Sunfire 300x5

Post by cring08 » Sat Dec 21, 2013 6:42 am

I am looking at 2 different 200x5 Sunfire amps to add to my main system.

The backs of these amps are different? Could you guys tell me what the models/differences are?

Chris... It appears the one on ebay is the first generation model and from the pics, the face has been damaged by window cleaner causing the "purplish" effect . The second is second generation without the joule meter and is foreign made. Both have the same parts inside and are essentially the same amp.
In reality, it only matters what it sounds like to YOU!!!

Chris,
I have a 200x5 if you are interested. I'll post some pix in a little while if you are interested. It's in very good shape, and has the joule meter. No purple on the front either :) No original box, but do have a copy of the owners manual. $800 plus shipping, which should be around $60. Let me know if you are interested.

Here are some photos of the 200x5. I know they are BIG, so if you want, click on this for the link to the amp on our website.

Both amps are great but the TGA-5200 is at least 10 years newer, is a 17" model and has the 12v trigger option. Down side to the TGA is the lack of meter and it was produced in China. The TGA is the newer design though with the repositioned Torodial transformer and higher quality caps giving it a much lower noise floor. The older 200x5's are just as good (in my opinion) but should have the caps replaced as they used pretty cheap ones to begin with and they're nearing the end of their 20 year life span. Hope this helps, good luck!

Just for your info I have a TGA 5400. I've had it about 4 years now & it is the amp that brought the phrase " a silent box of endless power".

It is from China but I have had no issues of any kind with it and it really is a silent box of endless power

Good luck whichever you choose.

Frank.
