Do any of you guys know how to connect a C9 Sonic Holography unit to an AV Preamp? Thanks!
Re: Connect Sonic Holography C9 to an AV Preamp
Which preamp/amp will you be using?
Usual connection is as shown below:
Main preamp output to C9 input
C9 output to amp main input

Re: Connect Sonic Holography C9 to an AV Preamp
Preamp is Marantz AV7005
Amps are two Carver TFM-15 (bridged- one for front right and one for front left)
Amp for center and surround speakers is Carver AV-705.

Then exactly as I stated. Pretty simple; you just insert it between the pre & amps.

Re: Connect Sonic Holography C9 to an AV Preamp
Thanks TNRabbit. That is the way I originally connected my C9 when I had a Carver AV Preamp (Preamp Out => C9 => main amp). But using that connection produced a lot of hiss. After the hiss I just thought that my C9 purchased from ebay needed repairs.
I talked with a Carver repair tech who stated that my connection method (same as your suggestion) will make noise. He suggested a tape monitor connection. Since my Marantz AV7005 has no Tape Monitor, I am at a loss.
This leaves me wondering:
1. Does my C9 need refurbished? (I bought it on ebay and have never used it successfully)
2. Does my Marantz have a CDR monitor whose function is similar to a Tape Monitor? ( I am a bit confused about CDR in general. I thought most people in 2011 burned CDs on a computer. Maybe I do not understand CDR. )

Curious, do you still get the hiss bypassing the C-9 (S/H button out) with it still in the loop between the amp and pre-amp?

Re: Connect Sonic Holography C9 to an AV Preamp
^^^^ Will try to test the C9 with my Marantz AV7005 tonight. My try Sonic Holography engaged and bypassed.
I am still waiting on HDMI and optical cables to connect AV preamp to FIOS and TV, so I am very much at the beginning with understanding how best to connect AV preamps. But that is part of the fun!!

Sorry. It took me so long to respond. I have to expand the frame to read the forum (and I only recently discovered this trick).
To answer the original question:
Hiss is present when Sonic Holography is engaged. No noise when Sonic Holography is not engaged (and C9 is between preamp and amp). I sent the C9 to Hi Tech Audio for repair. Hope to have it back soon.
