490t tube change time??

White label, PQ, USA, got it. Ive been getting all my tubes from ebay but have not seen the white label pq yet. Just found the thread where F1 gives a list of tube buying companys, gonna go there next.

The orange globes really sounded good, they had a really smooth laid back sound. It seemed like the lead singer was standing back from the mic a little more than normal and when he would hit an "S" there was no high pitch hiss. If that makes sense.

It seems to me that certain tubes would work better with certain types of music or even take it farther and say with certain songs. Is that crazy talk or am I becoming a tube freak?

Yes I have encountered that certain tubes for certain music thing. The phono stage in my Sunfire preamp uses 12AX7/5751 tubes and I have found that in my preamp Telefunken 12AX7's are the king when it comes to classical. Now with jazz black plate triple mica GE 5751's do a better job and is a better around tube for my taste. Face it you are a lost cause

Siemens makes great tubes. The Cca's are the ones to have. Very expensive and becareful of fakes. I bought a pair off of this guy on Ebay.

The Siemens have a different sonic character from the Amperex tubes. From my listening they are not as warm, they have more detail and air, and maybe a slightly larger soundstage. I could easily live with the Siemens tube but I prefer Amperex PQ's.

I was about a month late on tinpan's Sunfire vacuum pre with phono output and the price was right at $1650. I just had not fell off the wagon into the dark side yet

They look real but what concerns me is that he doesn't mention any kind of testing. Those stickers look like test results but I'm not sureand if they are you need to know the range on the tester he is using.Try to look for people who are posting test results with their listings and pretty much just sells tubes or/and electronics. You don't want to spend over $100.00 and the tubes only last you four months. Also stay away from sellers in Japan or China. Another thing to think about is Siemens tubes are usually over $200.00 a tube NOS so watch out for prices that are too good to be true.

Yes Tinpan had a nice one! Detachable power cord too. I have the fully loaded Sunfire preamp also. Awesome sound and a tube rollers dream!

If I do get a tube preamp Ill almost have to setup another system because from what I understand it doesnt have a subwoofer output/xover like the TGPII. Right now Im liking the bass so much Im going to just get all the tube sound I can out of the 490t.

The biggest improvement Ive made to this system is the preamp and the tube changes. Pretty amazing what a couple of simple changes can do for the sound.

The Sunfire has two sets of rca outputs one you can use for a sub. It also has XLR's.
