490t tube change time??

If I do get a tube preamp Ill almost have to setup another system because from what I understand it doesnt have a subwoofer output/xover like the TGPII. Right now Im liking the bass so much Im going to just get all the tube sound I can out of the 490t.

The biggest improvement Ive made to this system is the preamp and the tube changes. Pretty amazing what a couple of simple changes can do for the sound.

The Sunfire has two sets of rca outputs one you can use for a sub. It also has XLR's.

I think you miss understood me Rabbit I said the Sunfire has two rca outs and one could be used for a sub if the sub has a built in crossover.

Sorry Rabbit I didn't make it clear on my post that I was talking about the Sunfire Classic tube pre. I know nothing about the TGII .

I don't think there would be a problem installing a phono board I think you would have a problem finding a phono board

2 Carverfests ago, Bob had a prototype phono board that IIRC one of the two Tom's from Pittsburgh was the first to purchase. It had double the amount of tubes in it to lower the noise floor and was well received after observations from all that heard it. I haven't really heard anything since but it might be worth your time to follow up with either Bob or one of the two Tom's and find out. That might actually be easier than trying to find one on the used market.

I think Tom (T3) is getting a little mixed up, the "prototype phono board" that Tom is talking about, is my phono board in my Sunfire Pre.
Tom is correct, it was modded with more tubes to bring the noise floor down, but it was the only one Bob had made a mod I had requested.
It was in cabin 2, Tom & Tom's cabin, but I was staying in that cabin as well, so I can easily see why Tom thought it was one of the 2 Tom's
that owned the modded phono board.

Ah, thank you for clarifying this Brian. I do recall that it was his intentions to bring this into production, though. Of course, he was still with Sunfire at this point....so you may be the only owner of said phono pre in existence.

I wonder if the vacuum stage out of a 490t could be used. They turn up here and there for $200 or less when the drawer wont open or the remote is missing etc.
