TX-12 tuner help

Post by equalizr » Wed May 15, 2013 10:48 am

I picked up a tx-12 Tuner yesterday that I thought was fine after playing it most of the day. but when i turned it on this am all i got was static from the output.
turned it on & off a few times and finally it was ok again -seems once it s on & playing you are ok
also when it was playing one time changing the stations (the numbers changed as you pressed the different presets) the audio stayed the same even though the station frequency changed, very weird. I have a feeling its going up on ebay for parts and repair(what a shame) the unit is a 9.5 out of 10 at least.
any help would be great , going to open it up and see if there is any cables with connectors that can be removed and slid back into place with a little deox on it.

Open it up and de-oxit it liberally.

Also take a look for any cracked solder joints.

looks like one of the filter caps might be leaking 220ufd@35 volts (there are two of them) wonder if that can cause it, it has been playing for hrs and when i went to hit a different preset the station number frequency changed but not the song- very weird. I have uploaded a picture -is this a bad cap leaking?

think I found the problem, opened it up and the front faces disconnects from the main board with a few screws, the two connectors have little soldered blades on the front face that push into little fingers on the main board , a few of the blades looked a little oxidized, so I sprayed them with deox and used an exacto knife to scrape each of them there was two rows of 6 or 8, scraped both sides of the little blades, put it all back together and so far no problems at all. changes stations correctly after running all night and no static when its first turned on. If you ask me, it's a lousy way of connecting the front face to the main board!
