new hear ,just saying hi

just wanted to say hi
i am the new owner of a set of amazing plat's w60" ribbons.

my story,
i found a set of speakers for just 50 dollars on cragslist + 1 tweeter for $75 from the same paerson.
at that point when i saw the add, i new what was going to be a rebuild and not plug and play.
this included 7 woofers , 5 need refoming and 2 are bad, the paper cone of the woofer is folded over at or above the
voice coil and #8 is gone.
tweeters, one works after i had to pull-split the top very carefully and pull one magnet out off the top,
without damage to the ribbon, ya
the 2nd tweeter was dissasembled completely and damaged beyond any chance of a rebuild.
the cabinets are in good or better conidtion except, one gas a crack in the back, at the top of the tweeter
coner to the inside.
the griils and back baffles and crossovers are in good shape
so far.
5 woofers refomed and one tweeter and crossover put back and working, i can only test sound with a small
amp but that will do for know for testing .

i found the website and fourm with hopes of finding info and parts and i have found alot of info already.
i probaly have a lot of questions about woofer, tweeter crossovers blah blah blah but that can wait til later.

i am still in the need of some woofers that are good or that need refoming
and a tweeter that is at least complete but the ribbon damaged, so i can have-make the 2nd speaker complete.
if this last request can stay hear i will keep it hear or please let me know where i can post
a request for parts
thanks

Re: new hear ,just saying hi

The good news is the woofers are available & not too expensive either.

The ribbons are another story. James (toymaker) can rebuild them but they are more expensive than the woofers.

Of couse when you are finished you will have some of the best speakers period.

Someone will chime in with the woofer vendor soon.

Welcome to the Forum.

Welcome ! I believe it is Dynavox that sells the replacement woofers if they are running a sale they have been sold in the past at $29.00 each . Good luck with the speakers.

New drivers are available through Dynavox and new surrounds are available on eBay, links provided below. The ribbons are the tricky part, you can try and contact Toymaker (James) here on the forum, I believe he's the only one who can repair them. They do show up on eBay as well time to time. Your best option might be to just wait for another complete set to show up locally and try and make one good pair out of the two. Those are wonderful sounding speakers if you have the space for them and enough power to drive them properly. Good luck!

Welcome. I have a set of 60" ribbons boxed up and ready for sale with trade in cores. 800 shipped for the set that has been rebuilt. Good hunting with those speakers, they are what the name implies.

If they are not on sale for $29.99, email Dynavox, and they will notify you when they go back on sale.
