Carver Greatness knows no bound!!

Welcome to the forum. The CT17 is a nice preamp. You might want to see if you can get it fixed. They are still commanding a good bit of $$$ still so if it is in really nice shape it would be worth the investment to get it looked at.
Some cool Carver stuff!
Re: Carver Greatness knows no bound!!
I may be the first but I won't be the last to answer you with praise for Sunfire.
It is bob's latest & maybe best. I have a TG III & recommend it HIGHLY.
It also include SH & a phono input.
The quietest Pre I have owned so far (C-1 & CT 17 in the past) & excellent 2 channel & 5.1 channel sound.
Go for IT!
P.S. Welcome to the forum. You will find many good people here who share your feeling for Bob & his babies>

Re: Carver Greatness knows no bound!!
Welcome! I don't have any sunfire gear (yet!), but have heard some of it and the sound is top notch! I'm sure the other members like Frankie will chime in as to the quality and attributes of the Sunfire gear, but I don't think you can go wrong. As for the sound compared to the CT-17, I'm sure you would be happy.

In reality, it only matters what it sounds like to YOU!!!
Re: Carver Greatness knows no bound!!
Why don't you just send the unit into Rolland at High Tech Audio? His information can be found in the repair section. BTW, is that really your name?
In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.

You can't go wrong with a Sunfire
It should sound like it isn't there!

Re: Carver Greatness knows no bound!!
WELCOME! No you can`t go wrong with Sunfire. But I would look into having the CT-17 re-furbished.
I may not have it all together...But together we have it all!
Re: Carver Greatness knows no bound!!
Welcome to the forum, and get your ct-17 fixed, you'll be glad you did, and you can still buy some Sunfire gear whenever you want... best of both worlds.

Re: Carver Greatness knows no bound!!
Welcome to the forum. I would go with the C-4000 and a DPL-20 or 33 for the surround. Just a thought. I like the C-17 but not over a 4000 or a 19.

Welcome To The Forum HOLO.
That PreAmp of yours is very nice indeed and definitely worth fixing as others suggested, or simply take the excellent advice that beemers417 is giving you.

While I don't know jack about your AVC 2500 (other than it's list was $3295.00), John Curl is no idiot and Parasound makes some nice gear such as the Halo series.
That said, I'm sure you'd be happy with a Sunfire, but don't rule out Classe and McIntosh without a listen.

I agree with you F1. I have spent a good amount of time listening to the Parasound Halo gear and my thoughts are that it sounds "closer" to much of Mr. Carvers original made in Washington stuff than just about anything I can think of. I guess it may depend greatly on what speakers you hook the Halo gear to.
By the way, if you are going to suggest a listen to the Mac stuff don't forget to tell him he should consider bringing some of his own interconnects if he wants a realistic demonstration. The people over at Mac don't know they need to start explaining to the kids they have been hiring that you can't use the spare cables from the Playstation! (SEE PICTURE)! Yes, those are actual Playstation cables, and yes this was hooked up by the Mac idiots for a Mac demo! I couldn't believe they did it for one and for two I couldn't believe they let me take pictures of it!
